This course presents an overview of the history of the Bible, its writing and centuries of preservation, and provides an introduction to the history and theology of selected books and passages of the Old Testament. Through the study of the Old Testament, students will build their inductive Bible study skills.

This course presents biblical doctrine, the existence of God and His attributes, the Trinity, Theism, doctrine of creation, man, the fall, death, heaven, hell, doctrine of the church, spiritual warfare, the power of God through His Word, and Christ’s return. Students will gain experience in integrating doctrine into real world situations and in understanding how theological concepts are expressed differently across cultures.

As a biblical form of pastoral counseling, Elijah House 201 lays the foundations for healing and transformation for students, equipping them to minister inner healing to others. Students will learn foundational principles and tools for dealing with personal and interpersonal issues. Students will learn how to trace “bad fruit to bitter roots” formed in the heart, most often in childhood, and how broken hearts can be healed through the biblical process of repentance and forgiveness.

YOU MUST attend all three days of the Trauma Healing Workshop and complete additional activities, readings, and papers to get the 3 credits for this course. (See the course syllabus)
Description: In this course, you will learn to identify different types of trauma that result from natural disasters, abuse, and other pains in life. You will explore how Type A and Type B traumas affect body, soul, and spirit, causing us to become stuck. And you will learn the process of healing and releasing trauma in yourselves and others so that in Christ, we can all be set free from the effects of trauma.
This course challenges students to consider the relationship between Christ and culture by equipping students with an overview of Christian philosophy and answers to the most difficult questions posed by both believers and unbelievers. Within the theological framework, students will study major doctrines pertaining to the existence and nature of God, evil, the nature of man, Scripture as the source of truth, and Church as the body of Christ. The course introduces students to tools and models for evangelism by applying Christian philosophy in the context of sharing the Good News in a contemporary culture of competing world views and relativism. Students will perform and evaluate personal evangelistic activities.

The Christian life is most often referred to in the Scriptures as a battle or athletic competition requiring “warriors.” In this course, students will examine the theology of spiritual warfare and the keys to victory found in Christ. Further, they will develop and implement a personal plan for walking and living from Christ’s victory as His kingdom ambassadors in the earth.

In this course, students will explore the foundations of the spiritual disciplines and their role in the development of personal spiritual formation—the day-by-day journey through which individuals open their hearts to a deeper relationship with God and a rich understanding of their identity in Christ. The course will present why spiritual formation is a vital part of Christian ministry, its biblical foundation, and its role in the development of Christian education programs.

Starting from a foundation of biblically-based Christian ethics, participants in this course will examine the main categories of normative ethical theories and apply them to real-life case studies in ministry and ethical dilemmas for effective decision-making and conflict resolution.

Description: In this course, the student will explore a variety of media and technology applications that enhance worship and/or learning experiences. The course will address both hardware and software applications and will provide a general introduction to effective media use in both church and educational settings. Topics will include but not be limited to using video, computers and tablets, creating media presentations, cloud applications and services, presentation software, learning management systems, conducting digital research, sound systems, and media production. In the applied elements of the course, students will learn how to creatively integrate and augment technology applications in a selected specialty (i.e., technology in worship, technology in education, etc.).
This course provides a practical and theoretical study of the use of communication techniques and approaches that enhance leadership in social, organizational, and personal leadership contexts. Students will explore how effective leaders capture and capitalize on opportunities to communicate vision for new creative or strategic initiatives to move their organizations forward. General principles of the leader’s power, influence, credibility, and Christian ethics are considered with an emphasis on the impact of effective communication style.
