Course Offerings

Course Formats. CoA offers in-person, blended, virtual, and online classes.  Check the schedule below to select the type of class meeting that bet suits your schedule and geographic location. 

  • Online Class. These asynchronous classes do not have regular meeting times; however, all CoA courses offered online have 2 hours of required live videoconference meeting times for each credit hour. The instructor will poll all enrolled students for their availability to schedule the virtual course meeting times.
  • Videoconference Class.  These virtual classes meet by live, synchronous videoconference. Students are expected to attend classes virtually at the regularly-scheduled times.
  • Blended Class. Most CoA courses can be taken virtually by students who do not live locally.  Contact your Academic Advisor for more information about attending a “blended” class.

BS 101/501 Old Testament Survey

This course presents an overview of the history of the Bible, its writing and centuries of preservation, and provides an introduction to the history and theology of selected books and passages of the Old Testament. Through the study of the Old Testament, students will build their inductive Bible study skills.

CS 101 Foundations of Faith

The course presents a survey of Christ-centered biblical history and provides, through the study of Scripture, a theological framework for God, Jesus, salvation, the Holy Spirit, the spiritual world, evil, the Church, and specific theological beliefs. The course includes an introduction to inductive Bible study and an overview of church history.

CARE & COUNSELING

CS 204/507 Discipleship Coaching II

Throughout this 12-month Coaching 4 Christlikeness course, you will progress through a Christian discipleship coaching program consisting of four phases: Identity, Inheritance, Intimacy and Impact. You will be paired with a peer coach, operating in both roles as coachee and coach while you progress through the phases Your personal, experiential growth throughout the discipleship model will serve as key components for your own Christian growth. Upon completion of the program, you will be well equipped to restore and build up other people to live from a place of wholeness in Christ, and to help empower them for their personal journey through all aspects of their God-given purpose You will qualify for certification as a Christian Life Coach.

CHRISTIAN STUDIES

CS 351/551 SPIRITUAL WARFARE & VICTORY IN CHRIST

The Christian life is most often referred to in the Scriptures as a battle or athletic competition requiring “warriors.” In this course, students will examine the theology of spiritual warfare and the keys to victory found in Christ. Further, they will develop and implement a personal plan for walking and living from Christ’s victory as His kingdom ambassadors in the earth.

CS 315/515 Christian Philosophy

This course is an exploration of western thought and the influence it has today for the Christian and the Church. The course also examines different philosophical arguments through a Christian and biblical lens. The course explores the truth claims of Christianity, and how Christians profess God’s existence in a philosophical argument.

PY 101 Intro to Psychology

This course offers an introduction to the science of psychology. Students will investigate theories, topics, and applications in the field of psychology across biological, cognitive, social developmental, and spiritual areas. Students learn to identify ways in which the science of psychology affects everyday lives and gain knowledge in multiple areas of psychology. The course will highlight connections among different areas of psychology and identify ways in which different perspectives contribute to a fuller understanding of human behavior.

EN 101 English

The English Composition course prepares students for the rigors of college writing with an emphasis on
correct writing mechanics, writing for effective communication, writing styles appropriate to the intended
audience, and proper citations. Students are required to complete a research paper on a Christian topic of
personal interest at the culmination of this course.

Transformational Leadership

TL 312/512 Dynamics of Leadership

This course provides an analysis of effective, biblically-based team leadership practices in a project
environment. Topical coverage includes creating high-performance teams, managing team conflict, and
empowering teams for the successful completion of shared tasks. Students will explore how leadership
relates to motivation, mentoring, delegation, interpersonal dynamics, a healthy workplace climate, and
successful group performance.

Worship arts

WA 350 Vocal Performance

This course is designed for voice students whose primary interest is improving their singing. The course presents and makes application of basic principles of singing technique. Students will examine the performance of different music styles, genres, and harmonic vocal blending. The course requires two concert performances during the semester and collaboration with instrumental students.
